County Council Election News

15 Feb

There’s a lot going on in preparation for November’s county council races. Let’s go through the headlines:

* Bob Boyer, (R, 3rd District), who was planning to forgo a re-election campaign in order to run for the state House seat in District 113, has decided to instead run again for the council. He cited wanting to stay close to his family and job as reasons for this decision.

* This leaves Dan Shaul from Imperial as the lone Republican candidate for the 113th that has created a campaign committee. Shaul serves on the Windsor School Board. Seas Fauss remains in the race on the Democratic side.

* This means the winner of the Charles Huey-Mike Evans Democratic showdown will have to face Boyer in county council district 3. Some fireworks erupted in late January when Huey alleged in his closed Facebook group that Mike Evans had tried to persuade Huey to leave the race. In exchange, said Huey, he was offered an appointment to some Selective Service Board that Evans claimed to have the power to deliver. Huey also says Evans dropped the name of Rep. Michael Frame (D – 111th) as a supporter (Frame denies this). Huey stated that he declined the offer. Evans has denied this allegation. This is reminiscent of 2012, when Huey and Evans declared to run for the 113th House seat. But then Jeff Roorda entered the race, and those two scattered quickly. I doubt that any, uh, incentives were required to get them to drop out then.

* Jim Kasten, city administrator in Herculaneum, will run for the district 5 seat as a Democrat. Incumbent Terri Kreitler, a Republican, is not running for re-election. Kasten is on the Jeffco Port Authority board, and was opposed to the removal of members Dan Govero and Steve Markus a few months ago. He is also on the Dunklin school board.
